It read my Japanese card as English (or the other way round)

Language is worked out from the card itself, so you normally never touch it. The one case it can't crack is a Japanese and English pair that share artwork and number — genuine twins.

When the other language has the same card, the result offers "Try Japanese instead" (or "Try English instead"). Tap it to re-read the photo you already took in the other language — no need to scan again. It also appears when you've set the language yourself and nothing matched.

That choice lasts for the rest of this visit. To make one language stick on this device, set the AUTO / EN / JP switch at the bottom of the scanner — it stays where you leave it. If scans keep coming back in the wrong language, that switch is the first thing to check: set it back to AUTO.
