It says I'm going too fast, or to try again in a few minutes

Those are safety limits, not faults. "You're scanning very fast — give it a moment" just means wait a few seconds and carry on; it never costs you a scan.

"Too many failed attempts from this device" appears after five wrong passwords in a row for one account. That device is locked out of that account for 15 minutes — a guard against someone guessing passwords. Your account itself is fine.

1. For a sign-in lockout: wait out the 15 minutes rather than retrying — more attempts don't shorten it.
2. Not sure of the password? Use "Forgot password" on the sign-in screen instead of guessing.
3. If you signed up with Google, use the Google button — you may not have a password at all.
